Zen & Health Workshop
Teacher: Anthony Cheung Location: Blackbutt, QLD
Zen & Health workshops are held outside of Brisbane at a town called Blackbutt. The workshops are designed to share chinese culture and knowledge on how to look after our physical and mental health. Health according to TCM is both mind and body. A healthy body and mind must follow the principles of balance. Balance is reflected through nature. Nature is balanced because it follows a Law; the Way (Tao). So for human beings to be healthy, they must know and follow the Way. The Way being implemented by human beings is known to be virtue.
Hence when one needs to be healthy body and mind, they must strive to be virtuous. What are the qualities of virtue? Order; balance; tranquility; natural; harmony; constant; evolution; to multiply; knowing the root; non-attachment, faith, righteousness, benevolence, propiety, wisdom, etc.
The essence of virtue is clouded by our emotions and human ego, hence the ancients designed various activities to help rediscover this essence. Activities such as archery, calligraphy (painting), martial arts, rituals (pray to Gods and ancestors), tea ceremonies, cleaning, flower arrangement, music,
During the implementation of these practices to rediscover virtue is called zen.
